Common Questions

What Are the Requirements to Be a Teacher in South Carolina?
In order to be a teacher in South Carolina, individuals must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, pass all required Praxis exams, and participate in an approved teacher preparation program. Candidates are able to enroll in a traditional program or opt for an alternative teacher certification program like South Carolina Teachers of Tomorrow. Once all exams have been passed and a certification program has been completed, a background check must be submitted to receive the teaching certificate.
How Long is the Program?
The length of the program is up to you! Our online training is self-paced and made for you to do on your own time, so if you are currently working it’s not a problem at all! You do have to teach 3 full years, so once you have completed your online training and passed your subject assessment you can then start looking for your new career.
Do I Need Classroom Experience?
No, you do not need classroom experience. Our program is designed for all types of candidates, including those who have never stepped foot inside a classroom. The comprehensive training we provide will give you all of the skills and pedagogy needed to get started in the classroom, and you have a dedicated Field Supervisor and on-campus mentor to support you during your first year teaching.
Do You Offer Scholarships?
Yes! We offer full program scholarships to individuals who are not yet enrolled in the program. Our scholarship period opens on October 1st.
When Can I Start?
You can get started now! We have rolling admissions throughout the year, all you need is your official transcript with a major in the certification area you’re interested in pursuing.
What If I Never Start Teaching?
If you complete your training, or get to any point in the process before you are hired and decide teaching is not for you, the remaining balance of the program fee is not due. It is completely contingent upon getting hired.
