It is possible to teach in Texas without a teaching certificate if a school district issues a teaching permit. However, an individual that receives a teaching permit instead of a certificate is not considered certified by the State Board for Educator Certification and assignments can be limited outside of the classroom. In order to teach in Texas, you must receive a certification by passing the Texas Examinations of Educator Standards (TExES) test.
